Converse in washing machine

Hi ladies, DD1 has a very muddy pair of converse plimsolls. I feel my 4 year old washing machine is on borrowed time and I'm worried about washing them in it. Am I being precious and it's fine to put them in? Or do I have a point? TIA

Delicate wash with added towels or bed sheets should be fine.

Really Kat, good to know, thank you.

I did a simplar thing recently with two pairs of white Converse. I scrubbed them with a brush and washing liquid, rinsed in the washing machine then put them through a 30 degrees wash with a bit more washing liquid. They came out looking like brand new.

Yes it really works well, agree put them in with a load of towels or jeans, both for the scrubbing effect and to deaden the noise.

Helps if you stick them in a pillow case or something, then put them in with towels/sheets. Stops them banging around as much.

On this subject, has anyone put cheap ballet pumps through the wash? I have some really unpleasant smelling ones, and wondering if it's worth a last ditch attempt before I bin them...

My smelly shoes get a scrub inside with baby wipes, preferably scented ones, and a good spray with febreeze. That doesn't kill the smell completely but does seem to help a lot. I also spray the soles of my feet with antiperspirant before wearing them. Non leather lined shoes always end up smelly with me!

All good advice, thank you, off to do a bit of scrubbing now......!

if you're going to put them in the washing machine, at least throw them in the sink to get the mud off first.

The all stars print on the back comes off in the wash :(
