Stinky carpet!

Help please! I had my carpets cleaned last week and now the bedroom one smells really quite unpleasant - like old shoes.... What would get rid of the smell - would sprinkling bicarb of soda and then hoovering work? Any suggestions very gratefully received, thank you!

Came on to say sprinkle bicarb and then Hoover but you beat me to it!

I will give it a go, thank you!

Yup! Make sure it is totally dry first and then leave it on as long as you possibly can. You can lightly brush it in with a soft brush if it is very severe, but only do this if your hoover is really effective.

Shake n Vac also works but I have no idea what is in it and how healthy it is.

open the windows and door so it dries

was the person who cleaned it skilled in sucking the water out?

if you walk on it, do damp footprints show, or do your socks feel damp?

It has helped a bit but I can still smell it - the's the area next to the bed, which is away from the window so I guess it didn't dry properly, though it does feel dry now. We're going away for a could of nights tomorrow so I'll try leaving on the bicarb for a couple of days. Thanks again for your suggestions.

If it is definitely dry then it should be ok.

Did you have a professional carpet cleaner round? If so, have you been in touch with them? (I suppose it is difficult with the long weekend).

Yes, it was a professional but no, I haven't contacted them - if it lingers til Wednesday, I will get them back to clean again! Many thanks
