It will need a steam clean I know but for stains in certain places is there anything anyone can recommend to treat areas first? We had a leak from upstairs flat which left a mark and also just a couple of other darker wear and tear stains I'd like to have a go at first.

You can hire a carpet cleaner from B and Q and its not that expensive will make your carpet look like new. I did it a few weeks ago after a pipe burst in my bathroom n went all over my living room carpet

Mostly when you hire steam cleaners, they have spot cleaning sprays for the difficult bits. I've found these more than enough.

On the other hand Cavalier Bremworth dry stain remover is peerless in its ability to move weird shite. It's a Kiwi brand, and possibly not available in the UK. Or anywhere else with health and safety laws. Truly awesome powers.

I forgot to say that I do steam cleaning every six months to keep on top of the muck. It really pays off.
