OK, posting this in "Good Housekeeping" might make me liable for some sort of 'Trade Descriptions Act'-type misdemeanour as I think I may be a slattern.

How often do you defrost your freezer?

Hmm. Well, we have had our current freezer for over 5 years and I haven't yet defrosted it. The ice sometimes gets so bad I can't shut the door so I bash it off with a rolling pin. I wouldn't describe myself as a good housekeeper though. Grin

RedBlanket · 30/05/2012 20:31

I've had mine for a couple of years and I've never done it. It doesn't get iced up. Now my old one used to get frosted all the time so I also use the 'bang it with a rolling pun' method described above.

I don't think anyone would say I keep a good house!

RedBlanket · 30/05/2012 20:31

Pin not pun obviously.

AMumInScotland · 30/05/2012 20:36

When I can't open the door to the fast-freeze compartment inside. Probably about once a year, though quite possibly less.....

TheSkiingGardener · 30/05/2012 20:46

When I can't get the ice cube trays out and have to have my G&T warm

maxpower · 30/05/2012 20:50

2 maybe 3 times a year.

NorbertDentressangle · 30/05/2012 21:05

If I ignore maxpower's post (Wink) I feel slightly heartened by your replies.

Any more?

We have a frost free fridge freezer so have never had to defrost the freezer

PigletJohn · 30/05/2012 21:40

Maybe once a year

And the frost-free when/if it won't go cold enough (they're prone to that, when the air channel in the back gets choked with ice) and it would otherwise go to the tip.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/05/2012 21:52

When I can't get the drawers open. (maybe twice in ten years)

lardylump · 30/05/2012 21:54

i do it quite regular because dd leaves the door open Angry

I use the hairdryer method and it takes about half an hour

RoxyRobin · 30/05/2012 22:00

Used to do it twice a year.

I hated it - it was one of those jobs which used to take more time and effort than you'd expect.

I now have a frost-free so have been released from that particular bit of white goods-related enslavement. Have never had any problems with it re temperature control, and I keep a freezer thermometer in there to check.

NorbertDentressangle · 30/05/2012 22:18

ItsAllGoingToBeFine. Thats what I like to hear.

We realised that in the approx 10 years that we've had the freezer we think this is only the second time its been defrosted Blush.

I have had my fridge freezer for 4 years and ice has started to build up a little so I've just defrosted mine now it says on Google once a year but TBF just see if ice is building up then I'd defrost it makes your freezer last longer 2 hope that helps Smile

Sitranced · 31/08/2018 11:49

Once a year. I've no idea how old it is but I've had it for at least 8 years.
