How do you keep the bugs out??

I have ishoos with flies in the house (crawling all over my kitchen with their germ laden feet from all the dog poo in the garden next door) but every time I have the back door open even a tiny bit we get loads of flies coming in - lots of tiny ones and the odd big fat one/bee. We have an open plan house and they go straight through to the kitchen. I have little yellow dots all over the window from when I left them to it the other day .

I have a blue light electric zapper but it doesn't really catch them, I looked at sticky strips earlier but can't face the thought of dead/dying flies hanging in my kitchen window and we need the blinds closed to keep the sun out.
Mission impossible? I really don't want to keep our lovely back doors closed all summer and the kids start messing about with them if they're not pegged open. We got a fly screen last year but had the doors replaced and nothing will fit the new ones - they're about 10ft tall.

I sprayed around the outside of doors today with a mosquito repellant. In the hopes that it'll keep them away. Close all the chimney flues too as the little buggers come in that way too.

Could you put a light curtain infront of the door and just pull it across when the door is open?
