Dualit toasters -worth the money?

We've got through loads of toasters in the past few years. They always seem to short out /go up in flames/just stop working. Our current model is the worst ever, it takes an age to toast bread to a satisfactory degree and the slots are too small for most slices, so you have to stop half way and turn the bread around to get it evenly toasted.Every time we go to buy a new one, we look at the Dualit toasters, but baulk at the price. I guess though, we could have bought one by now with the amount we've shelled out for all the others. So, are they any good and should we go for one this time? Your advice/ experiences would be very welcome.

They really are excellent.
They are sturdy, reliable and convenient.
The relatively wide slots are great for thick cut bread and you can control them well with the timer.
Well worth the money.

We got our as a wedding present 10 years ago. Its fab.

The best thing? The cage. Great for hot cross buns and all manner of awkward shaped items that would otherwise get stuck and make your house smell of burnt toast for evermore.

We have had ours for 10 years and it's been fab. Went through goodness knows how many toasters in the previous 3 years.

My understanding is that all parts are replaceable so in the event of needing a new part, it is easy to fix.

We also bought a Dualit kettle at the same time and no problems there either. If you mooch around online you might get a good deal. Ours were new from an eBay seller and saved a massive amount compared to the high street

No. My dad got one and gave me the old cheapo one to take to college. By Christmas he wanted to swap. Takes forever to toast and doesn't pop up so you never know its done until its cold, defeating the purpose of not popping up. The ticker carries on ticking after it stops toasting.

Got ours last year when we got the kitchen done (matching kettle / toaster in red) and they look fab, the quality and feel of them is fab, but.........

IMHO the toaster makes great toast, but is slow. So if you are doing lots of rounds of toast every morning it may annoy you.

Also kettle is slow and quite noisy.

But even with these faults, they look and feel of such high quality I would buy again.

we got one for a wedding gift and it was rubbihs. we got rid of it. didnt work and we couldnt get a replacement for some rubbish warranty reasons i wouldnt get one again.

Ours is older than our oldest son, so over 16 years old. I still love it.

If it didn't work properly I would complain (if new) or get it fixed.

My Mum bought one three years ago and it's just packed in and not under warranty so a big, fat waste of money.

You can sit there and watch your toast brown, my DSs love it.

Yep like the dualit. Feels sturdy and makes great toast. That said, I had a cheapie Phillips one which lasted 6 years and was still going strong when we DH gave it away. Saw me through my student days - was a fab little thing.

If the timer keeps ticking it means something is wrong with it.

I love the way you can take to toast out extra hot without any cooling and I swear it tastes nicer than normal toast [deluded emoticon]. I have total control over how brown I want the toast and if your toasting lots in a row it gets quicker because the heating element stays hot.

Mines been going 6 years. I have a cool limited edition promotional marmite one!!

I want a 4 slice one though

make sure you don't buy the more modern cheaper versions....they are very poor value and just trade on the name

we have one that is about five years old, and aggravatingly the timer sticks, I have had it apart and fixed it twice, but I think we need a new timer which i think you can get on ebay

They are slow, but that is because they TOAST the bread and don't just colour the surface, your toast will be crispy and toasty, and not just brown flabby bread.

Had ours for 15 years, it is the classic 4 slice one. The only thing is if you have turned it off at the wall you can inadvertently time your toast instead of cooking it.

I still think grill toast is the nicest

you can do fuckloads at once and it doesn't go flaggy like toaster toast

my kids disagree. They like things what go ping and take up room on the worktop.

oh fossil.....the toaster plug is also the steamer plug so if that has been on I never remember to check and my toast is never done!

Mine is all right. It toasts the bread, but not marvellously as I would expect for £70+!

The best thing about it is it looks nice and the round black plug goes well with my black nickel sockets.

Ggirl I'm with you, mine toasts one side too, it's cos an element has gone. 40 notes (no pound sign) to replace grrrrr. Didn't have it that long either.

I love mine, it toasts really evenly and looks so nice sitting on the work surface.

I too, have not turned the socket back on and timed the toast, not toasted it.

to all those whose toasted only on one side-that was our problem too. unbelievable to then have to pay to get fixed when was only a couple of years old. grrr.

You can also fire crumpets right across the room if they are well done
