Question about dishwashers and fridges

I have a very small kitchen and I would really like a dishwasher.

Does anybody know if there is any reason why I can't put a fridge on top of a dishwasher?
They would both be free standing ones.

the top of the dishwasher gets quite warm when it's running which is probably not great for the fridge.

You can get very small dishwashers which fit on top of a work surface. Smile

Thank you both.

Yes I'd wondered about the heat aspect of the dishwasher to fridge, but didn't know if it was a problem.

I've looked at small dishwashers that go on the worktop, but I have so little worktop to start with that I can't really afford to lose any of it. I've also looked at loosing a cupboard to fit in a dishwasher, but again so few cupboards that I can't really lose one.

I'll ponder some more whilst I go and hand wash the dishes :)

I sacrificed a cupboard for a slimline washer, having a tiny kitchen with little worktop too. It means I have been very ruthless with the amount of china etc I keep, so it all fits in one single cupboard, apart from the mugs which are on an open shelf.
I don't have any 'good' china, but we are not that sort of family anyway - I don't think anyone in the wider family has any!

you could always put the fridge on top of the worktop, with the dishwasher underneath the worktop. Worktop material is similar to that used for (low quality) flooring, but thicker.

You would need to ensure the worktop was well-supported by units either side of the dishwasher, and preferably with a batten fixed to the wall at the back as well, and that the fridge could not fall off. Budget kitchen units (self assembly) are not very rigid unless they are fixed to the wall. Fridges will vibrate if they get a chance.

The Bosch dishwasher that I have had, have always had a removable top that you can take off if they have to slide under a tight worktop, I have done this after fitting wheels/rollers which lift them up a bit. Very little extra noise comes out since the worktop muffles it.

I imagine you will need two strong women to lift it up, and down if it ever needs servicing.
