salt and dishwasher question - bugging me...

Really boring I know but please read on Smile
When you fill your dishwasher with salt how much do you use up before the water starts spilling over so you know it's enough?

Mine always takes at least half a 2kg bag - seems an awful lot or is it just he norm?

Also why can't they make it easier to pour out, why a bag when it's so low down and easy to spill out and not easy to store?

I just pour it in until the water starts spilling out, that's how I know it's full. And my dishwasher came with a funnel for the salt well, did yours not? You could always keep a plastic laundry liquid bottle and decant the salt into it.

I have a wee spouted tub thing that I put the salt into to make it easier to pour into the machine. It takes loads of salt to fill it but then it does last for quite a while once filled.

plastic measuring jug here.

Keep pouring when the water spills out, it should be filled with salt granules right to the top.

when it seems to be full, poke your finger in and stir, it will settle some more so you can put the lid on.

mine takes 1.5kg which is a pain as bags are always 2kg. I think Miele do a dishwasher with the salt refill on the door and not inside the machine so that is on my wishlist if we ever win the lottery

yes I do use a funnel thing but find I can pour it out just as uselessly without! Think I'll get a container too S...1973 although the plastic jug sounds like an idea. It's just the position of it so low down and awkward to reach comfortably.

Also got new dishwasher and it seems to need salt quicker than the old one, so think thats why I'm finding it more annoying.

The dishwasher should have a dial to adjust how much salt it's using. If you check the manual it should tell you what setting to have it on, depending on how hard your water is. TBH, we have very hard water and I turn my dial almost right down, and it still works fine - I can tell when I've run out before the light comes on because the dishes don't come out properly clean.

I normally fill to the top, when it starts to spill out. Normally get a bit of overspill even when I use the funnel provided. I don't worry about it too much - should I?

HauntedLittleLunatic · 21/05/2012 13:10

Yes you should be able to adjust the salt used...I use all in one tabs but still find a bit of salt helps so have it set on the minimum setting.
