How to organise my freezer

Hi,
I am so loving this site, just found it last week and my limited attempts at housework are even worse than usual! There is an organised person inside me just waiting to burst out and my freezer is my biggest challenge as its a mess of bits and pieces and I get frostbite looking for everything. I have seen people suggest using labelled bags but I still wouldn't be able to find anything, I'm thinking of getting boxes to store different type things such as meat, supper things, bread etc and wonder if anyone else has used them and were they a success. Any suggestions for a type to use appreciated.
Thanks, furry :)

Labelling is essential, can't count the number times I've eaten a freezer special -"no idea what dinner is children, it hasn't frosted yetConfused"

Lable needs description and date frozen

Also, read this in the beeb's Good Food mag, use a red pen to label raw meat poultry & fish, blue for cooked. The boxes are a good idea, but you don't always need to spend loads of money on lots of them. Freeze food in bags, in a box, then you have a flat item that stores more easily and the box is still available for use.

Happy freezingSmile

Hi Dora,
I try to label as well and also include how many portions but have also had what someone on here called "brown" because no one knows what it is. Yes think I'll try the boxes and see how it goes. Hope I don't end up with just lots more "brown" neatly stored in boxes rather than lost at the bottom of the freezer.

Hi Furry

How about having main meals and veg on one shelf and "others", cake, bread, grated cheese etc on another. I seem to remember buying self labled freezer bags when I lived in the UK, they have an area to write on. What I find most often is my Lables come off, so I've started wrapping some things in foil- helps with reheating too- then slip a label between the foil and the bag.

Iirc the self labled bags were above the freezer cabinets, not with the sandwich bags etc.

I use big bags in the freezer, I have one with all the bread in, one for frozen veg, one for meet etc... any leftovers get frozen in small containers that have see through lids. HTH.

I found this book in a charity shop Mary Berry it has a big section detailing all the tips of freezer organisation. Reccommend trawling a few charity shops for it or one of her other freezer books. She explains things really clearly.
