Now maybe i should post in aibu but im almost sure im not.

We live in a small cottage. Solid fuel heating, shit weather 9 months of the year and the house has had a never ending list of things needing done. We have never relaxed for more than a couple of months without doing something.

Since moving in 4 years ago we have
-put in new kitchen
-had a baby (3rd dc)

  • Put in a cloakroom toilet and whb
-painted every room -converted the attic into a playroom for the kids with a fixed ladder, velux windows etc -installed a woodburner in the bedroom -put up a new wall -taken down a wall -are currently putting a small extention on to replace old rotting bathroom/utilty area

So to get to the point Grin my dad has been helping us alot, he is a builder and so does pretty much all our work. Dh and myself are the donkeys, doing the digging, painting (all the unskilled bits) I feel very lucky to have my Dad.

SO whilst i was out the other day my dad was looking for a small key and looked in our drawers in the lounge. They are our 'crap' drawers. Does everyone not have drawers that gather any crap that doesnt have a home?

My Dad mentioned today that our house could do with a good spring clean as our drawers are full of crap.

I know it might not seem much but im so tired constantly trying to keep my head above water in this house that it just felt like the straw that broke the camels back.

Tell me im not the only mother of three small kids with crap in her drawers Wink

I have drawers full of crap and even mentioned it in a case i was prosecuting in the crown court.

Flisspaps · 15/05/2012 14:22

I'd tell my Dad to fuck off being nosy tbh Grin and then ask if he wanted to pay for a professional to come in and do it because I certainly won't be troubling myself!

MonaLotte · 15/05/2012 14:24

I have cupboards and an entire room full of crap so don't worry!

startail · 15/05/2012 14:25

If your Dad is like my Dad it isn't him that does the tidying.

bronze · 15/05/2012 14:27

Have you not seen Michael mcintyres man drawer sketch?

I think it is normal to have drawers of crap, but I personally don't. The reason is because you can't see the contents without opening the drawer - out of sight, out of mind.

lostintransit · 15/05/2012 14:31

Phew thank fuck.

I honestly felt like after years of hard graft i was a complete slattern after all.

Its normal to have crap right? Kids bring crap home from school, parties, friends houses and seem to generate crap out of nothing. There is no where else for the crap to live.

My Dad is 67 and he and my mother are both retired. They have plenty of time to sort out their crap. Plus their house is twice the size of them and they dont seem to be short of drawers, none of which are empty.

Thanks everyone i can now relax with my cuppa and leave the crap in its drawer.

NarkedPuffin · 15/05/2012 14:35

What are you supposed to put in the crap drawer if you sort out all the crap?

lostintransit · 15/05/2012 14:35

We have just moved and sadly have no spare for crap, no I lie I have just thought of one. Grin I'm sure it was a throw away comment but I know how these things can get you down. Sad Prehaps you need to move a break from doing the house up? Wink

piprabbit · 15/05/2012 14:38

I have a house full of crap.
We have crap drawers somewhere, I just can't get at them due to all the crap heaped on the surfaces.

bronze · 15/05/2012 14:39

Small town I had the exact same problem

seeingstars · 15/05/2012 14:39

Haha at the nokia Blush we have a few, well you never know.

AWimbaWay · 15/05/2012 14:40

I used to have one crap drawer, now I have 5, plus a windowsill and several vases full of crap. Incredibly if anyone ever needs a green fluffy pipe cleaner, 1 dollar bill, dried up tippex or a very bouncy ball I know just which draw or vase of crap to find it.

3littlebadgers · 15/05/2012 14:42

I am way OTT about having a nice clean tidy house and I have got two drawers full of crap Grin if all that stuff didn't have somewhere to be dumped it would ruin the illusion of calm and tranquility.

CaptainHetty · 15/05/2012 14:43

I've gone one step beyond a crap drawer, I have a crap cupboard. It's like a tardis in there.

kbaby · 15/05/2012 21:39

We have a 'draw of death' in our kitchen because when things go in here you never see them again.

I think every house has a draw of crap. Ours is full of blue tac, celotape, screws ans anything we find laying round the house that you aren't sure where it came from and keep it 'just in case'

PorkyandBess · 15/05/2012 21:47

We have a massive chest of drawers with 9 drawers in our dining room.

Most of them are stuffed with crap. They are where all the 'stuff' gets shoved when we're doing a panicky tidy up before visitors. Our study is also a 'shove it in and close the door' room.

Massive chest of drawers is going soon as we're having some changes made. I have no idea where we'll put all our crap that we can't be bothered to sort out.

AdoraBell · 15/05/2012 22:01

Of course every house a crap drawer, or multiples thereof. If your father's house doesn't then clearly he is an alien from a different galaxy, it's the only possible explanation

bookbird · 15/05/2012 22:16

I think you're perfectly normal OP, it's in a drawer, no-one else can see it. I have crap on almost every surface and it's getting me down.

Can I ask how you cope with your wood burner? I have a stove and have a layer of soot on everything. Slattern? Moi?

Flisspaps · 15/05/2012 22:58

I have a house full of crap balanced out by two completely empty, totally clutter free drawers Blush

True story.
