I have already tried nail varnish remover, methylated spirit, white spirit and none of them made any difference. I read on the internet to use a razor blade but I can imagine needing a new mirror then.

What about a bit of bleach ?

fortyplus · 15/05/2012 00:19

definitely try bleach. I had hair dye on my nose last week and nothing would get it off so i resorted to a bit of bleach on a tissue and it was gone in seconds. Had the shiniest nose ever, though! Grin

I think I did try bleach but will try again just in case.
Thanks for your advice.

Hairspray?

You can buy specific razor blades for ceramic hobs that clean off the burns without scratching the top. We have a Neff hobb that came with the obligatory manual and a blade that fits in a metal holder. I use it to scrape burnt on food that won't come off (miraculously I haven't managed to make a hideous mess of it scratch it yet).

Other than that, have you tried a solution with propylene glycol in it? Or try some bicarbonate of soda or Barkeeper's Friend on a small patch in a circular motion? Remember not to mix solutions though!

Forgot to give a link for the glass scraper. You can probably get them in other places too.
