Brown crusty loo

I have a sort of brown crusty coating on my toilet around and below the water line. Bleach is doing nothing to it. Combination of bleach left for a while + elbow grease slightly shifts parts of it, but really it's not budging. What is it, is it limescale? What do I need to use to get rid of it? It's starting to really bug me.

It's probably limescale deposits that have become stained. Some toilet limescale remover should do it....look for it next to the loo cleaner liquids in the supermarket.

Stained limescale.
Harpic fizzy tablets in a black box overnight and a good scrub in the morning will help.

im sure kim and aggies used a load of neet coca cola for that on how clean is your house

Tattymum · 13/05/2012 14:03

Spirit of Salts overnight - nasty stuff but it will bring it up like new - plenty of of flushing afterwards

I think I used coke once on our old loo and it didn't work - I'd rather drink it TBH Grin

Thanks for the suggestions :)

use a toilet brush or plunger to force the water past the u-bend. then use a heavy duty toilet limescale remover or something like viakal. Leave over night and then scrub with wire wool. Then use a heavy duty limescale removing toilet cleaner daily to prevent recurrence.

Sainsburys toilet limescale remover is the best I've found for this. Squirt half the bottle on, leave overnight, flush. No need to scrub or bail, and it's less than £1 a bottle so is super cheap to boot!

Yes, Spirit of Salts is marvellous! and quite cheap too!!

Steradent tablets overnight to keep it clean once done.

pour in hot water (from the kettle) and put in half a dozen denture tablets and leave over night. that should shift it.
