Bolognese stains - help!

Any recommendations on how to get bolognese stains out of a top? I washed it as soon as possible, after applying Vanish stain remover stick to the marks, but they are still there. Have left it today soaking in lukewarm water with vanish powder as i'm at work.

any miracle tips? Its one of my DDs tops that her granny got her from Joules, so not cheap and I'm a bit gutted as it is a nice top, and it's a really obvious splatter of stains :(

TIA

Hang it on the washing line if you have one or even in a sunny window.

The sun can do wonders for such stains.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/05/2012 08:42

Have you tried hanging it out in the sun?

SleepyFergus · 07/05/2012 09:21

Thanks both, will try that. Although sun is hiding today.... (in Scotland!)

Even with no sun,as such, the daylight helps.

It certainly can't hurt to bung it out while at work.If necessary leave it out overnight and give it longer, even if it might rain.

lagoonhaze · 07/05/2012 09:36

Yep sunlight or even daylight. If not bright sun may take a couple of days!

Seona1973 · 07/05/2012 15:49

washing up liquid rubbed into the stain along with a little bit of water then rewash in the machine

Thanks all, will try your suggestions and leave it out in the daylight (sunlight if I'm lucky!)

Thanks to everyone! After soaking it for a day, I rubbed some washing up liquid into it and gave it another wash...still had the stains but I put it outside on the line all day and pleased to say that the majority of the stains have gone!!! Esp the ones on the front of the top. They are a little faint on the inside white placket but not that noticeable and I might be able to gently and v carefully dab them out with some bleach.

So thanks to all for your suggestions, a collective effort! And I won't have to explain to my MIL why an expensive pressie was splattered with bolognese sauce. Needless to say, my DD will be stripped of all clothes next time we have spag bol!

If a little bit remains I would simply put it out on the line for a little while longer, with the affected part facing the most 'sun' IYSWIM!

Glad to hear you've had a good result.

More hanging in the sun (yes, we had sun yesterday) and ALL stains have gone!!!

I am ridiculously thrilled about this Grin

thanks again all!

sad to say we dont have sun today though (also in scotland)

startail · 10/05/2012 15:03

Yes sun works wonders, before resorting to bleach get the stain wet again and repeat drying in the sun.

The UV bleaching seems to go much better if the item is damp. Quite easy to arrange on my washing line at the moment. It's dry that isn't happening.

BBisTitanium · 10/05/2012 15:04

Ace bleach, it's a fabric bleach and works on pretty much anything

startail · 10/05/2012 15:05

Glad it worked, felt like magic the first time i tried itGrin

Now all I need is a way to remove acrylic paint!

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 10/05/2012 15:07

It still feels like magic when I do this Grin

DaisyMaisyJessicaEmily · 10/05/2012 15:07

I've heard of vanish and aeriel etc, but what is Sun? where can I get some please? (also in Scotland Envy )

SleepyFergus · 10/05/2012 16:16

Sun - very hard to get hold of. Have to get it while you can. Quite popular on the continent though I believe....... Wink

Does leaving it out in the sun work on coloured clothing or just white?

worldgonecrazy · 10/05/2012 16:50

I remember the first time that the sun removed tomato based stains on one of my favourite outfits. I vividly remember thinking "Why did it take me until the age of 41 to find this out?"

Bert2e · 10/05/2012 17:00

Napisan works wonders as well :-)

SleepyFergus · 10/05/2012 17:04

Hairybeast worked on coloured for me!
