help me find a table...

...that will seat 8 & fold up really, really small Grin

I suggested to DH that we get a wallpapering table & a nice tablecloth, but he poo-pooed my idea!

We need to very occasionally seat 8 in the dining room (we usually eat at a smaller table in the kitchen), but would like the room to also serve as a playroom for the kids, so can't leave a big table set up all of the time.

We got a big bit of MDF which we put on top of our normal table when we have lots of people round. Goes against the garage wall when not in use. It was very cheap from B and Q. Could this work ?

How handy is you dh or you for that matter ???, I ask becuase I had the same problem a couple of Christmas's ago, we looked everywhere and a) could not find anything that looked ok, and b) did not want to spend a fortune on something that I just knew would not get much use.

so.......... we went and bought some MDF from B&Q - bought 2 pieces and joined them together with some door hinges, so it sort of folded in the middle IFSWIM, then popped it on top of my existing table, ( put one of those non slip floor rugs on first under the mdf and then a table cloth on top - it looked absolutely fab and cost very little.

We then just took it apart and popped it in the loft for next time round !

You can even round the edges quite easily with a plain thingy ( not very diy'ish)!
but hey if I can do this sort of thing then anyone can !

A bit 'out there' but I knew someone who suspended one from the ceiling (just the board, no legs) and could lower and lift with pulleys! And I was going to suggest Work' s solution too.

workinprogress great minds think alike !

Ooh - a fold-up version, I like it !

hmmm... not sure about the suspended one (although I think the DC would like it!), but the big bit of MDF on top of a normal table sounds like a brilliant idea!

Thank-you! Thanks

Could you get a very small fold up table for four that you coud add to you existing table when you had guests? Just an example www.next.co.uk/x492988s3
Ikea used to do a great one but look like it's been discounted.

funnily enough siobhan I have looked at that table before & it would be perfect if only it were bigger! (perhaps I should buy two? Hmm)

The table we have in the kitchen is from Next (can't find it online) & extends from a fairy snug 4 to 6, so we're thinking on the rare occasion we do need to seat more we'll move that into the dining room & do the MDF thing. I have added "buy MDF & hinges" to DH's to do list Grin
