Roll top bath

Tell me honestly, are they a nightmare to keep clean. I don't mean if you have them plonked in the middle of the room but more where they are next / near to a wall. Does the bathroom just end up with inaccessible dusty bits or am I over thinking it and no different to a built in bath.???

I think they end up with inaccessible dusty bits.

When we first moved into this house, there was a roll top bath about four inches from the bathroom wall. The dust and cobwebs between the bath and the wall were disgusting. I guess you could poke a duster down there and clean it out if you were really keen.

Yep, lots of dusty bits. Ours has the taps on the long side next to the wall which is wood panelled with a shelf just under the roll top of the bath - so the taps are fiddly to clean.

I keep shampoos and bath stuff on the shelf and it gets incredibly dusty (thanks DD for using all that talc). I have to poke a duster down there as Mary said, and I keep knocking the stuff off the shelf, but the bath is lovely.

Oh, and it's also a bugger to sweep all the fluff (where does it all come from?) from under the bath.

I wouldn't want any other kind in my bathroom though not for ages, because I paid a fortune to have it resurfaced

I haven't noticed any difference in dust.

sevenbubbles · 28/04/2012 23:13

Thanks all. So what is consensus? Would you get a roll top again ( as they do look v v lovely)? Or would the dust put you off?

I honestly haven't noticed any extra dust so yes I would get another one.

Mealiepudding · 29/04/2012 16:50

Yes, I'd get another one too, they are very lovely. I'm sure I hope no-one else notices the dust!

We have a roll top bath. I love it. I hadn't even considered or thought about the extra dust issue until you mentioned it. I would get one again (although we are keeping this one for life whether DH wants to or not Wink ). The does get dust underneath which is hard to get rid of without lots of reaching and potentially swearing . Ours is against 2 walls and the far wall skirting board under the bath is very dusty as it's impossible to reach, but, tbh, you'd have to be really looking for it to be able to see it as it's obscured by the bath IYKWIM. If you had a room big enough to put it in the middle of not to one side though you wouldn't have this problem.

My bath is butted up on 3 sides. It is disgusting underneath. I think we will put a fitted bath in with tiles and panels next time
