Help! play sand in the dishwasher

I washed the dd's outdoor toys in the new dishwasher 2 weeks ago and now it has stopped washing properly and dh has noticed and after an investigation he found the sand. Thought I was safe but dd told him 'that's because mummy put all my sandy toys in there' Anyone got a solution for getting all the sand out?

Clean the filter, scrape out what you can and stick it on a cycle empty. Then repeat.

you could also put some dishes or mugs in there, right way up. They will be full of water at ther end, but they will tend to trap heavy dirt at the bottom.

The sand will tend to wear out the pump and valves.

Good ideas, Thank you! I found dh in there last night with a straw taped onto his industrial work hoover! Going to try the mug thing but it is already working much better. We have vowed never to speak of it again
