Just been to M& S. Bought 3 special offers / meal deal thingies. 2 out of the 3 offers did not come up on the till- full price on my bill. Luckily i mentioned it to the lady on the till- 'did my 3 special offers come up?' She said only one had!! The manager was called and she said sorry about that. I would have expected a gesture of goodwill. Hope nobody else caught out by this. Check your receipts! I know M& S profits are down but they don't have to resort to this!!!

anniewoo · 24/04/2012 21:43

What gesture of goodwill would suffice here?

BlackOutTheSun · 24/04/2012 22:11

but you wasn't overcharged, the manager sorted it Confused

Bletchley · 24/04/2012 22:16

Ooh you're hard work aren't you!

madasa · 24/04/2012 22:34

I would have expected the manager to come to my home and cook the said meals.....as a gesture of goodwill

margaritaaPracatan · 24/04/2012 22:38

This isn't just a till mistake, it's an M&S till mistake.

Oh get over yourself - A gesture of goodwill? hahahahaha!!!!!!

PorkyandBess · 24/04/2012 22:38

Gesture of goodwill & resorting to this as their profits are down? That's slightly ridiculous.

I was in M&S yesterday, at self-serve checkout thingy, and one of my items went through at completely wrong price.

I called the assistant, she rectified it, said sorry - job done. I think she may have laughed if I had requested a 'gesture of goodwill'!

difficultpickle · 24/04/2012 22:38

madasa you clearly have lower standards than me. I'd have expected at the very least a chaffeured limo home with my shopping, an M&S chef to cook it plus a M&S wine expert to serve the wine. Plus of course a whole host of minions to clear away and do the washing up. And I'd want my food for free. In fact I'd expect at the very least (as well as all of the stuff I've already listed) to have free food shopping at M&S for a year. Grin

madasa · 24/04/2012 22:46

am clearly easily pleased bisjo Grin

I bought some rechargable batteries in Tescoi because they were a good price. I subsequently noticed that the price on the receipt was a couple of quid more than the shelf-edge sticker. I went back and after checking, they refunded me double the difference. Very good, I think.

anniewoo · 25/04/2012 11:02

So it's ok to overcharge - the special offers were not coming up on the till. How many others got caught out?

margaritaaPracatan · 25/04/2012 11:05

It's not OK to overcharge but you have to be realistic here, they clearly weren't aware, rectified the matter and will hopefully adjust their systems.

Chandon · 25/04/2012 11:17

I guess the lesson is to always check your till receipt, I do.

I have caught M&S once as well. I do wonder if it is an "accident" but I am a suspicious sort of person...

saffrone · 25/04/2012 11:20

Actually, (ignoring the goodwill issue, where to be fair to OP, Tesco & Waitrose would usually offer the product for free in similar circumstances,) as a long time M&S food shop customer, I can vouch for the fact that M&S frequently ie 1 shop in 3, overcharge. I always call them on it as I choose based on price promotions.
I never expect or get a goodwill gesture, just a polite and rather weary acknowledgement of their crap IT/shelf labelling systems, and a refund. Why do I keep going there? Because it is by far my closest store, and often fab quality food, which, when on offer, is worth it to me.
So, OP, YANBU to say, Check your receipts!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 25/04/2012 11:21

I'd want Gary Barlow to come and serenade me with 'Here comes the sun' whilst feeding me Percy Pigs. Howard can come too if its a meal deal.

margaritaaPracatan · 25/04/2012 11:25

'Spose they have to pay for those dreadful ads somehow. Shouldn't think Gary costs 50p & a bag of grapes.

iseenodust · 25/04/2012 11:26

Couple of weeks back Tesco were offering 3 for 2 on salad stuff advertised at £1 each. Went through till at £2.97 because under price drop promotion tomatoes were now 99p (!) despite clearly having a £1 sticker on the actual packet. No gesture of goodwill / adjustment offered by lady on till & afraid I couldn't face the queue at customer services.

anniewoo · 26/04/2012 07:17

Thanks Saffrone.

I have been overcharged at the BP M&S in Wimbledon Chase four times now. I made a formal complaint to M&S who passed it on to BP who said sorry, would 1000 nectar points satisfy me. It isn't about the 'gesture of goodwill'. This is a breakdown of trust. Must I really check the receipt every single time I buy from M&S? Even as this complaint is being processed, I have since been overcharged again at the M&S Store in Wimbledon Town Centre - each time from the 3 for £10 promotion, which ends up costing about £13/14. Outrageous that they keep doing this. How many other people are being ripped off?
