Best way of cleaning inside wellies?

DD2 has a habit of finding the deepest and muddiest puddles to splash in so the dirty water gets inside her wellies therefore everytime she puts them her socks come out filthy.
Do you think I could put wellies in the washing machine or is there a better option?

Fill the wellies with very hot water and some liquid non bio then leave them to soak for a few hours.
Rinse, stuff them with newspaper turn them upside down and place them on a radiator. You need to keep replacing the newspaper.
They take about a day to dry completely.

I wash DD's in hot soapy water and use a scrubbing brush to get inside. I do it all the time and sit them on an old towel on the radiator to dry. If its on they dry really quickly!

Thanks. Might try a combination of all the ideas. Dishwasher as a last resort. Do you use dishwasher tabs or just run it empty?

Mumsnet is amazing. I was about to post just such a question. Very good tips so far, but I'd still like to know the answer to the OP's question - can you put them in the washing machine? I am like Maryz but with washing machine - often have a frenzy of putting everything in there. I was worried the inside would never dry but I guess it can't be worse than the farm puddle water in there now (yuk)

Yes I suppose you can put them in the washing machine - no more than a 30 deg wash. I can't see they will come to harm but they will thud around and be annoying Grin.

Drying them isn't a problem, the news paper or my putting them on the radiator will both work, or just upside down on the drainer.

Probably worth putting an old towel in with them in the machine to reduce the noise Smile

I came on here to find out what sort of people had inside wellies as well as outside wellies Grin

scrappydappydoo · 28/04/2012 08:22

Well I filled them with hot water and they promptly drained away - that would be the problem then - the holes in the wellies Blush.
At least I have lots of ideas for when this is a problem..
beansndspud if it keeps raining like it has this week I think I might be needing inside wellies as well.

bean I'm the kind of person who should have indoor wellies. My kitchen floor is often more dirty than the garden Confused.
