Changing your bed sheets.

How often do you change your bed sheets? - not the kid's beds, but your own?
A quick straw poll among friends reveals a huge variation from one OCD friend who went through a spell of having clean sheets EVERY DAY to another who (after several glasses of wine!) owned up to about every 3 months! - but she assured us they are clean people and shower daily.
I'm a once a week person.

Less often in winter, more often in summer as I love the smell of out door dried laundry. I wash the duvet as well, as i have one that can be washed at home, and I wash the pillows a couple of times a year too. I'm a great fan of airing the bed, so I don't make the bed but fold the duvet back on its self, so the duvet and mattress can air.
I read somewhere that after a year your pillow is 5% dust mite dung!! Yum!!!Grin

weekly, more often in summer (partly because it's easier with just sheets - I hate struggling with the duvet!). However, since we have 9w DS, it's every time they get puked on...

susiedaisy · 30/04/2012 10:01

About once every 7-10 days and I shower twice daily. Op be prepared for this thread to turn sour and competitive 'how often do you' type threads normally doGrinGrin

Indith · 30/04/2012 10:05

It should be weekly but I have a small baby and I'm struggling to find a washing machine slot!

MushroomSoup · 30/04/2012 19:30

I was inspired by this thread and not only washed the bedding on DD3 and DD4's room but I also popped out and bought new duvets!

littledolly · 30/04/2012 21:32

Always weekly here for both our bed and DDs. Would love to do it more often but haven't got the time! I also change them on Sunday evening & can't wait to get into bed!

CremeEggThief · 30/04/2012 22:12

Fortnightly for both ours and DS's, but sometimes weekly if it's a hot summer. I always do it on a weekend day too.

HappyHippyChick · 01/05/2012 08:49

Weekly for ours (on a Monday) and far far less frequently for the dcs Blush - although I did change theirs last Monday and am planning on doing it fortnightly from now on!

Fortnightly here too unless there's been any sort of excessive bodily secretions - sweating, breast milk, lots of messy sex. We both shower nightly & don't do bare bums in bed Grin

If any of the above occur then weekly or as required.

tanfastic · 01/05/2012 09:20

Once a fortnight

susiedaisy · 01/05/2012 09:22

'ironing sheets' good grief women wash your mouth out with soap and water! Grin

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 01/05/2012 09:26

Babs to me airing the beds means flipping back the duvet in the day to air it off. Proven to kill beg bugs which like warmth eurgh
ironing sheets? ironing sheets?! Life is too short!

MrsHoarder · 01/05/2012 09:35

Every 1-2 weeks depending on the time of year, how often we've had sex and how busy we are. Previously it also depended on the weather but we have a drier now so no longer need to try to dry double sheets in the house.

Don't iron the sheets though: they get stretched out over the mattress to be straightened and look exactly the same 5 minutes after I first go to bed irrespective of whether they were ironed or not.

MousyMouse · 01/05/2012 09:37

I do the same as faith I flip back the duvet in the morning and open the windows wide for half an hour or so.
I make the beds in the evening and open the windows again before bedtime.

teanosugar · 01/05/2012 11:22

weekly.

If I won the lottery I would have new bedding every day - there's nothing like that first snuggle down into a newly made bed!!!

teanosugar · 01/05/2012 11:25

We do the airing thing as well,
pull the duvet right back over the bedstead, then open the window, then go back about an hour before we go to bed later and make the bed up.

CremeEggThief · 01/05/2012 11:34

I always air for at least a few hours too.

Stangirl · 01/05/2012 15:10

Ah- one of these threads. I was only popping onto Good Housekeeping to talk about my first time having my oven professionally cleaned but I could not resist posting on this one.

You see.....my answer is 2 or 3 times a year. Normally freaks the thread out.

RoxyRobin · 01/05/2012 15:26

I take it your domestic staff do it normally; you only do it when they're on holiday Smile.

wonkylegs · 01/05/2012 15:31

Between weekly and fortnightly depending on how busy I am / how much I've slept in spare room as DH is snoring/ if DH is on nights (gets changed after 4 days)/ if DH is away / my RA is flaring or its particularly hot.
DS's once a week or more if he has an accident or a nose picking session [yuck]

ellie4 · 01/05/2012 17:47

I do sheets and pillowcases weekly and duvet covers fortnightly. That is for us and dc.
