Dishwasher not cleaning properly

kitcat83 · 17/04/2012 11:50

That's it really- all the glasses are coming out cloudy and things not feel or look clean.

I've checked the salt and rinse aid and put it on an empty wash and still no joy.

The dishwasher has never been great but it's pretty much pointless at the moment!!

Any helpful tips?

Have you tried cleaning the filter, and taking the arms off to make sure that water is flowing through them freely?

Sounds like it needs cleaned. Check it's draining properly too. The arms in mine don't come off (it's a zanussu). So do check before prising them off!

Oh sorry yes, don't use force to get them off if they don't seem meant to come away.... mine just has a big plastic wheel in the centre which unscrews and the arms drop off.

Thanks yes think it may just need a bit of TLC would you recommend one of the specific cleaner thingamies from the supermarket or not bother?Grin

The glasses cloudy you say?

Sadly dishwashers do make glass cloudy. Some detergents are a bit milder than others. If they won't brighten up when washed by hand, they may be spoiled.

If by any chance it is hard water, it might be that the softener is not regenerating properly. Can you see a heating element in the bottom, and is it bright, or scaled?

What age and make is your machine?

If you open it mid-wash, are the arms spinning, and is the water very hot? Is there much foam?

How often to you remove and clean the filters?

What make is it? We have a fairly new Neff one, and after cleaning the filter, we had terrible problems with bits of food stuck to plates. It got so that we were washing stuff before we could put it in the dishwasher.

It turned out that we needed to turn the filter cover until the arrows lined up, and hadn't done so. Dishwasher is magic now.

Remove and clean all filters. Mine has 3. Run a wash with dishwasher cleaner. The sainsburys one is fine. Glasses tend to go cloudy. Not much you can do. I have an old Bosch dishwasher and for some reason the glasses always come out dirtier than they went in, so I do them by hand.
