They look brass but I think they are a mix of metals IYKWIM

Brasso doesn't work

Any wonder products out there to shine them up?

if they look like brass but brasso doesn't work, they are quite likely to be lacquered brass. The lacquer means they don't need polishing for a long time. It also means you can't polish them until you strip the lacquer off. Paint stripper will do it.

Unless you want to spend your life repolishing, strip off, polish very well, then relacquer.

If they are EB (electro-plated brass) then the plating will wear off and you will have to throw them away and buy new ones. Some EB is plated steel and a magnet will stick to it; some is plated alloy and tends to get pits and bubbles.
