How do I clean Ds1's lunchbox?

I caved and let DS1 have one of these pvc kind of lunch boxes with a zip IYKWIM instead of the nice easy to wash plastic box he had been using. I wipe it out every day, but the crumbs collect in the bloody corners and it looks manky. How can I get it looking clean? Can you machine wash them? Or will that melt it.

stick the whe thing open in a sink of hot soapy water. give it a good clean in the corners. leave to dry flat out on the drainer. squirt of dettol after for goid measure if you want. i do this once a week and it is fine

you can turn them inside out to get to all the hidden bits

SkipTheLightFanjango · 14/04/2012 22:54

I stick them in the washing machine.

boredofironing · 16/04/2012 22:12

I put it in the dishwasher!

mummybookworm · 16/04/2012 22:16

Try top rack of dishwasher.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 16/04/2012 22:20

Line it with a single sheet of kitchen roll every day before putting lunch in - damage limitation.

Very Shock that people would put a lunch bag through a machine wash every day. Did you know that most of the country is in drought?

nsjuly · 16/04/2012 22:24

Washing machine once a week.

PTA · 16/04/2012 22:29

I used to put ds1's lunchbox in the washing machine but felt it smelt too much of washing powder. Fine for clothes but I didn't want it to taint his lunch.

I now put it in the dishwasher where it obviously comes out a bit wetter but it soon dries hanging on a chair or door knob.

pumpkinsweetie · 17/04/2012 06:16

The country is in drought but if im putting the luchbox in with clothes i cant see why im contrubuting to it not only that the water companies have tons of water leaking out at sea-they are the problem!

BarryShitpeas · 17/04/2012 10:50

I babywipe it, turned inside out, once twice a week.

Wash in sink every couple of weeks.

Thank you for the washing machine tip - I put all our lunchboxes in the wash at the weekend (30' quick wash with no detergent) and they've come out good as new.
