Apologies for the nasty topic choice, but my DD was very ill last night over the armchair and carpet, iv managed to salvage the carpet, but the chair, im starting to struggle a bit - DP sponged it last night with vanish upholstery cleaner, and i've gone over it again this morning, having managed to take the cover off the cushion, and its starting to look better - but still not 100% - but dear god, the smell of sour milk, you can smell it a mile off! I'v resorted to putting the cover in a different room and spraying perfume liberally around!

Any top tips to get the smell out of the fabric? Its an ikea seat cushion cover, but it says it shouldnt be put in the washing machine...

I'd put it on a hand wash program and hope for the best.

second handwash. If that doesn't work then use a bicarbonate of soda solution and sponge the affected area a few times - worked once for me. Also used dry bicarb on a carpet to get rid of sick smell - left for 2 days to "soak up" smells and damp and then hoovered.

all good tips thankyou! fingers crossed the chair seat cover has been saved! Its currently drying out after a very light spongy handwash and its looking better than it was :)

My new problem is that i now as i have a watermark stain on the footstool... stupid Vanish in reality, stupid me for not reading the instructions properly Going out to buy bicarb later and will do a bit of google-ing for watermark stain removal tips as i cant get the fabric off the footstool!
