Dishwasher making noise and not cleaning

Our 2 year old dishwasher is making a noise on the wash cycle. We have cleaned the filter and all around it, removed all the scummy stuff but now it isn't washing properly either. Any ideas of what to do next before calling someone out? Thanks!

Is there anything hanging down or sticking up that is stopping the arms from going round fully?

Have you taken the arms off and cleaned them out?

Dishwasher maintenence wash?

Is there anything stuck in the rotar arms? limescale? food debris?

You can clean them out using cocktail sticks (so I have read anyway).

Is it actually taking in water?

yes, the holes in the arms might be blocked with food particles. Depending on the make, you can take the arms out to clean them (look in the instruction book). It is easier to shake particles out if you canm wash the arms in the sink.

If you have not been using salt there might be a limescale problem.

1. Are the arms spinning during a wash?
2. Is it getting foamy inside?
3. Is it taking the tablet out of its compartment?

Thanks for all the ideas. I have now wiped more scum out from around the door with vinegar solution (am disgusted - I didn't know this happened!!) and used a dishwasher cleaning solution.
No noise, it may have worked...!

I use the spatula out of the food processor to scrape plates etc before they go in.

Half a cup of soda crystals cleans on a hot wash cleans the machine.
