My washer has died, recommendations for the new one?

The washer has finally given up the ghost, at 12 years old it didn't really owe us much really.

But now I need a new one, anyone got the best washer in the world that they'd like to tell me all about? Budget c. £400.

We've been married 14 years. Had one Zanussi - lasted 4 years and 1 whirlpool, lasting six years. We are now on our second whirlpool and it's pretty good (so far) Lovely big drum and very flexible settings.

LG. Just bought a 7kg one from Co-Op and it's bloody fantastic. Very quiet as it's direct drive and it has a 10 year warranty on the motor. Mine was £280 including delivery, the co-op delivered on Saturday, and text me the night before to say what 90 minute slot it would come in.

Came on here to post exact same message OP, so sorry I have no recommndations for you but Im watching with interest!

Our one that's just died was a Hoover one, had it since 2004, bought it 2nd hand for £50. Wish they still made them.

Don't go for an Indesit Moon. They are shit.

Bosch Bosch Bosch Bosch Bosch. Not sure how much new ones cost as I bought a recon one for £100 on the advice of my old washing machine repair man. He kind of did himself out of future work when he told me that he never, ever gets called out to Bosch machines but got plenty of shouts for Hoover, Zanussi, Phillips etc.

I'd never had a machine that didn't need a call-out at least once per year, but I've had this one for 5 years now, used at least twice per day, not a single problem with it.

Miele. Miele for all appliances!

OR

I have the latter & it is fab

Another vote for Miele - we've had our washer for 10 years and it still works really well and it has never gone wrong. Think they are on offer with a 10 yr guarantee at the mo as well.

Ponders · 08/04/2012 21:02

before I bought my Bosch recently I was looking at Mieles as well but

a) the 10-yr guarantee seems to appear & disappear randomly &
b) they cost twice as much for a much smaller drum

so consider carefully Smile

(my old Bosch - dead cheap one, prob built in Spain, not Germany - lasted 6 years with no probs before succumbing to a fatally expensive fault)

PigletJohn · 08/04/2012 21:08

Bosch, or Miele if you can afford it.

Ponders · 08/04/2012 21:11

\link{http://www.johnlewis.com/230898972/Product.aspx?source=63258\this Miele from JL at £729 inc 10-yr-guarantee} is fairly good value but only 6kg load

the 8kg load mine has is amazing, I do a lot fewer washes & it will wash a double duvet easily - performance is great too

swings & roundabouts...Smile

RueDeWakening · 08/04/2012 21:20

Thanks Ponders that Bosch one does look good. We ideally would get Miele, as they seem to be basically indestructable, but can't afford it at the mo. Although perhaps MNHQ could organise a product test and I could get one that way? Chances? [bugrin]

Will have a look at the other suggestions too - and if anyone knows of a shop or website selling Miele washers for £cheap, please share!

Ours is 14 this year. Siemens (aka Bosch). No grumbles.

(It'll break now, just you see!)

RueDeWakening · 10/04/2012 18:10

Update: we got the 8kg Bosch one that Ponders linked to, ordered yesterday from www.appliancesonline.co.uk/ and it arrived today at about 8am. It's already done 3 loads, I can't believe how quiet it is! So far, so good - am really happy with it.

I'm with Ponders - my machine is almost exactly the same here at best price but now out of stock but has a 1600 spin and I am blown away by how dry the washing comes out. No pun intended, honest! I absolutely love it - totally changed my weekly chores! Took me a silly long time to work out that more washing needed more powder Blush though.
