Half a pint of milk been spilt on the bed

Dh forgot to put the valve into DS's bedtime milk bottle, and all of it has poured into a big wet patch that has gone through his sheet and mattress protector.

I have put a towel between the mattress protector and the mattress, but the mattress is already soaked. Any ideas what I DH needs to do to sort this out? Or is the mattress doomed to smell horrible and grow strange things?

I did get a leetle bit frustrated with DH when it obviously hadn't occurred to him that it would need cleaning up.
