how to de-stink my shoes

never had this problem before. i always wear socks or pop socks/stockingy things but my most favorite pair of shoes have suddenly developed the most awful stink.

Am currently 33 week pregnant and these are the only shoes that fit around my elephant feet. They are from Next and kind of look like sketchers with an elastic criss cross across the top of my foot. THe shoe itself is made of some kind of synthetic material. THe inside feels like it is brushed cotton. THere is fake suede around the heel.

I am tempted to chuck them in the washing machine with some bio to kill whatever is living in there but am scared to risk killing the shoes as well as they literally are the only comfortable pair.

If anyone has any ideas i would be very grateful.

Sprinkle liberally with bicarbonate of soda and leave it on overnight.

Cat litter apparently. The gritty type.

I saw it on TV a few weeks ago.

Cat litter or a thick layer of bicarb in them overnight is meant to be effective

Sympathy on the sweaty feet/stinky shoes - seems to be one of the many unspoken side effects of pregnancy!

I wash my shoes, even leather/suede ones, in warm water with a bit of Fairy Liquid. I don't leave them in water too long and let them dry naturally. I probably shouldn't do this and wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but it works for me.

will try the bicarb and cat litter. have a hard time beleiving it could work on such an strong smell but definately worth a try.

Liberally dampen the insides with surgical spirit (or pour some in, swirl it around and tip out). This works amazingly well on my favourite, but stinky, summer sandals! It kills all the bugs, but you don't need to wet the shoes - the spirit evaporates quickly.

They sound like a pair I bought from next many years ago. Mine have survived the washing machine on several occasions. The suede bit comes out a bit crunchy but soon softens up with wear.

i like the sound of surgical spirit!

Penguinfeet1, i bought them about 5 years ago so it is entirely possible they are the same shoe. Good to know that yours have survived the washing machine. If all else fails...
