I have this wonderful white linen shirt bought from Pudu Lifestyle (www.pudu.com.au/) . The top front edges of the collar have gone yellowish, probably from my makeup or moisturizer.

how do i get it white again? i'm afraid to bleach. bob.

did this happen after you had washed it and put it away for a while?

in which case I think it will be oil from the skin remaining on the cloth, that darkens as it oxidises. I get it on white cotton shirts that are not regularly used, even though they were laundered and seemed perfectly clean before being put away. Identical shirts that are worn and washed regularly don't get it.

I use a stain-removing laundry spray that says it removes grease, and a hot wash with Persil. The mark can be quite difficult to remove. Luckily your linen shirt will take quite a hot wash.

If you have a hardwood worktop, and oil it, or a bottle of oil drips in the cupboard, you will find the oil slowly hardens as it oxidises, and turns first into a gum, then into a varnish, which does not come off with ordinary cleaning, and even resists white spirit. As far as I can see, the traces of skin oil must be doing the same.
