How to clean stair carpet?

I am a cleaning novice and usual want to get my stair carpet looking fluff free. We have huge clumpy Hoover and I'm ashamed to say I don't know how to use attachments. How can I achieve this without using the Hoover please?

a stiff hand brush gets better results than the hoover I think. If dust makes you sneeze though be careful.

Thanks will try that. I'm sure when my mam was here she mentioned running a damp cloth or sponge along edges? Should I do this too?

Yes that will stop the carpet edges getting those dark dust marks.

Put on a pair of clean dry rubber gloves and rub/stroke carpet vigorously (but not too hard iykwim). Great for the bits at the edge or folds - I promise you'll be shocked how much crap comes up. Esp good if you have dogs/ cats, picks up hair from stairs, sofas etc
