eggs best before 23 feb - yes or no

sorry to bore you with this - but just want a quick response. Dh has put a box of eggs in the bin but i think they'll be fine. They've been refrigerated. What do you think?

It's the 15th March, right? Leave them in the bin woman! They go all watery and manky around the best before anyway. They are 3 weeks out of date!

I love food (& hate waste) and I'd definitely use them, but for baking etc, not as a boiled egg (where the egg is the star of the show/underdone).

Too much food is thrown away that is perfectly edible, just because of a use-by date. I'd crack one and if it looks ok and smells ok, then its ok.

Disclaimer: if you eat them all and get ill, I was never here ok!

I'd use 'em if they passed the glass of water test.

If it's not off when you crack it open, it's fine.

Put them in water, if they're off they'll float, if they sink, they're ok

Best before - means they will be OK after that date but not as fresh, just check before use.

However 23 Feb to 15 March is a bit long, I'd guess they were probably off by now.

When you crack a bad egg you will know immediately - so just do it into a bowl separate from your other ingredients so that you don't contaminate them.

Use by - does what it says on the tin - I'd be far more careful about anything with a "use by" date.

Crack them into a bowl, and have a sniff. You'll know if they are off!
Then make yourself some lovely cake or biscuits - and send them this way if you don't want to eat them.
Even if the first one is off, it doesn't mean all of them will be.

I made omlette with some eggs that were BB 31 Jan on Tuesday. I can report that I am still alive with no ill effects. The omlette was fine - not the best and tasted a bit bland, but it was perfectly ok.
