We recently moved and DS's room is currently flowers! So going down the boy route. He's nearly 4 and likes Ben 10 and Spiderman. We could go on either theme as DH wants to do but I think just a feature wall with colour would be better.

I can see that my suggestion would be fairly dull though. Green carpet is down so I though of a dark green wall?

we've done dd's room with dark blue below a border and bright green above it.
the bordeer is space.

could you do something like that in ben 10/spiderman colours and use a ben 10/spiderman border all the way round?
our borde is a wide one at light-switch height.
and we've got space curtains and lampshade,.

ben 10 border
it's green, will match the carpet.

ben 10 curtains

I would say avoid characters in the more permanent stuff (wallpaper etc) and use it stuff thats easier to change (bedding etc) otherwise in five mins he will have decided ben 10 or whatever is uncool and you will have to redo it. I would go for a coloured wall and maybe a feature wall like you say, but in something inoffensive, or maybe put a ben 10 poster up which can be changed?

you can get those removable stickers so its easy to update a theme, do you have a poundland near you? they had LOADS of them in yesterday i got some cars2 onces for my ds4 (almost 4) and you got three sheets for £1 bargain compared to homebase, b&q etc, they had lots of diff themes, pretty sure i saw spiderman!

gregssausageroll · 12/03/2012 13:51

Great ideas and DH has just text from homebase to say he's found stickers!

We've just decorated the dd's (5.5 & 3)bedroom. After much consideration we painted it white. The girls have been able to choose 2 decals each & they currently have a space theme (planets from ceiling & on walls, stars on ceiling)

This makes it easy to change as their tastes change - as they do so quickly at the moment

LoonyRationalist · 12/03/2012 14:10

check ebay for stickers btw - often much cheaper

Thanks.

You could also just go with a plain colour scheme and then use character bedding, blankets etc. My son went through a ben 10 phase. He had the duvet, a fleecy blanket thing, a rug, some pyjama's and a ben 10 poster in a clip frame. Now he wants to be more grown up and they've all gone but I've not had to redecorate his room. Careful with the decals, they do take the paint off the walls if you've used matt paint. Silk paint's probably okay.

Just decorated 9 week old DS room went for neutral carpet and a light green on all walls then bought removable stickiest . Just now have baby ones however in time as he grows up they are easily changed. Got extra paint so can touch up walls with all the little hand prints I expect I will get xx
