how to clean stone flags

Our kitchen floor is stone flags, it is a really big area and mopping just does nothing. Last week I scrubbed an area with hot soapy water with a scrubbing brush and bucket. Can any one recomend what to do ?

What kind of soap are you using?

Take them down from teh flagpole first?

Hi first of all I used just washing up liquid, that didnt make much difference, so I then tried ariel. It made them look cleaner, but it was so hard to get back up, I did use three quarters of a large concentrate bottle, haha. So that was my fault it was a major deal to get the ariel back up. The flags look lovely, just really hard to look clean.
