Have I just buggered up my washing machine?

Machine slightly whiffs and vaguely remembered reading on here about maintenance washes. Of course in my befuddled state (just had a baby) I didn't bother reading about how one would actually go about it and just improvised.

So I put a capful of bleach in at 90.

Now I have a very frothy washing machine. Should I be worried and tell DH to get the mops and sandbags out or is this normal?!?

It will be fine :)

You could put towels down to catch any overflow though

Righty ho then! Towels and sandbags it is! Smile

That's just all the sludge and soap build up you're seeing. It's very satisfying to me. Blush

I have been reading about this this week and am determined to do it tomorrow! It does sound very satifying - like squeezing a big spot....

I did a 95 wash but I use so little powder nothing came out so I drained it out again.

Grumpla · 02/03/2012 22:46

Ooooh! It didn't explode and now it smells FRESH!!! Grin

if it foamed, that will be the old soap sludge dissolving (the hot water does it, you don't need to add bleach)

do it again.

when it no longer foams you have got all the old soap out.

While you're at it, scrub the grooves in the rubber door seal, take out the fabric draw and wash in hot water or dishwasher, take out the filter and remove all the money and bra wires.

I can't actually find the filter Blush my last machine had a hatch on the front but this one doesn't (was left in house when we moved in)

And since DH spent two hours yesterday bolting the new tumble dryer on top of it I don't reckon now is the best time to ask him to lift it down and start again so I can fossick around the back of it Grin

But I will do another wash and door seals etc today. Every little helps, surely?

have a look for the instruction book. The filter is usually on the front. If you've lost it, send me five pounds and tell us the make and model.

Well - I did mine. It was very disappointing.
