Sewing machine patterns, kids clothes, easy?

I want to learn to use my sewing machine, i am a beginner. And I thought about doing some easy clothes for my 2 girls, 4 and 18 months.
Any recommendations for some easy, pretty clothes? Where can I get patterns from which are free or cheap? I envisage a few boo-boos to start with...
Thanks!

It might sound obvious, but cut your teeth on simple things first - like simple pinafore dresses (no sleeves), or pyjamas (as no-one else really sees them)!

And think about the fabrics - I found stretchy fabrics (like cotton jersey) a bit of a pig to work with. as a beginner ( I still don't like them much!) Avoid stripes and diagonals as they are tricky to match.

Practise on spare bits of cloth for things like buttonholes.

Sorry I don't have any cheap pattern recommendations - I have picked up my most recent ones in charity shops (for me not DCs).

Good luck!

Have you tried www.ottobredesign.com?

I really like the magazines. The patterns come together with detailed instructions.

I know just the book!

Here

It's £11.89 on Amazon, but includes 10 paper patterns, and the book is so clear and easy to understand for a beginner, there are also loads of tips about customising the patterns for your own children. It's my fave book!! Smile
