lakeland steam mop - good buy?

We've got sealed wood flooring, tiles and vinyl downstairs and because I'm not much of a mopper, they're not usually pristine. I saw the own-brand Lakeland steam mop in their catalogue - it's half the price of a branded one. Are they any good? Has anyone had a bad experience with them? The reviews on the Lakeland site are universally excellent which made me smell a rat... And apparently you need distilled water in hard water areas - is this a hassle?

I don't like it. Leaves my wooden floors streaky. Apparently you are supposed to clean them first and then go over them with the steam mop. No time for that in this house. I must call them to say how disappointed I am with it.

Not answering your qu, but I have the Vax one and love it :)

Yup, I've now done some digging in the MN archives and I'm really quite disappointed. Sad I thought it might be the answer to my slatternly prayers. But sod cleaning floors first, then autoclaving them! I don't want them sterilised, just clean. So I might as well do it myself on hands and knees... Grin

Spagbol - what sorts of floors do you use yours on?

Tiles to clean, and on carpets to de-germ after something icky like sick (clean the offending mess up first, obviously). Think it's ok for all other hard floors as long as they are sealed, but I only have tiles

They only need vacuuming or sweeping first as they would do if you were mopping with a bucket. I don't have the Lakeland mop but I love my Shark steam mop.
