Nasty smell in washing machine

The washing machine has started to smell bad (the actual washing that comes out is OK). The washing machine is less than 18 months old. Does anyone know what might be causing it, and how to get rid of it? Thanks.

I did this, but no joy. Also, my damn machine NEVER seems to drain fully, there's always nasty water in the drain/filter bit (not the drum). I always drain it out, but that gives me yet another annoying laundry chore.

I brought a washing machine cleaner from wilkos it was £3.99 and killed all the germs in the machine including the pipes and left it smelling lovely.

You have cleaned the filter? And you have removed all the fluff and grime from the cavity where the filter goes in?

  1. Read this

  2. Look at the waste hose from your washing machine. Does it go into the u-bend on your sink? If so, does it loop up first, so that the highest part of the loop is higher than the water level in the sink when it is full? (if not, dirty water from the sink will run down intro the washer)

Boil wash with half a bag of soda crystals in the drum.
