Or will it scratch it?

Thanks in advance! :)

not exactly scratch, but it will take the shine off and it will gradually become more matt. This will make it harder to keep clean. You can get special cleaning sprays for plastic doors.

Is it just dirt, or are there greasy marks, mildew or something?

Thanks Piglet, that's what I was worried about. There is some sticky residue left from balloons from a birthday party and also some marks from the leaded glass, almost as if stains from the lead have run down the door if that makes sense...

meths (or gin) should take the sticky off

if it really is real lead, you can get Patinating Oil which seals the surface. It is usually sold in a bigger bottle than you need, though.

seems to be called

Patination Oil and not very expensive, an old-fashioned hardware or paint merchant might have it locally.

Lead tends to leave white crystals behind when rain runs down it.

(I have gin in the cupboard I think :o )
