Kitchen islands - how much overhang?

For those of you who have kitchen islands, by how much does the work surface overhang the cupboard doors? and is it enough / too much? I like the look of an overhang but am not sure if it would mean grovelling to get at the cupboards / drawers.

the standard overhang for where there are cupboards is 2cm - you would want it there as it would look weird if it wasn't. It is fine to open drawers and cupboards with this. If you want to have an area of the island for stools so you can sit at it (ie no cupboard openings there) you'd want between 25 - 28cm so you have room to push in your stool and for your legs when you are sitting there.
