How do you get caught up when overwhelmed?

I'm naturally quite an untidy person, but over the years have trained myself to be very organised, however it only takes something small to upset my routine and then it all goes to pot :(

So, after failing a couple of exams, and stepping up the revision (I'm a full-time student), followed by sick kids and lots of doctors' appointments etc, I'm now hopelessly behind with everything and it's just so overwhelming I don't know where to start to get caught back up. Not to mention I'm exhausted!

My life is pretty hectic and I have very little time to myself, at home, except 24 hours, twice a month, when my kids stay at their Dad's. This week I'm on half term and for the first time in 18 months I'm not revising, so I really need to use the time to get caught up at home! The kids are at home all week, so I plan to get them mucking in.

Where do I start? I feel sick just thinking everything that needs to be done :(

Well, I'm pleased to report that after spending the first half of the week procrastinating and catching up on my backlog of lost sleep, yesterday I was feeling much better and had a very productive day! :o

I got the hallway all cleared out and vacuumed and my kitchen is now spotless. I took 3 loads of stuff up to the loft, 4 large bin bags of junk down to the bin and 3 bags of outgrown clothes out to the car, to take to the charity shop on Monday!

Not only that, but the rest obviously did me good as I got up at 6 this morning feeling refreshed and raring to go, which hasn't happened in months! I have clothes in the drier and a second load in the washer already. Once the kids are up, we're going to hit the bedroom and sort out all the old toys etc.

Next week, when they're away at their dad's I'm planning to sort through the remaining boxes I still haven't unpacked since we moved in 6 months ago Blush
and file all the mountains of paperwork currently on my desk...

Thanks for all your support! Looks like what I really needed was a good rest :)

I find inviting people round gets me through the housework, especially if they're coming from overseas, and will want to see the whole house.o
