Range type cooker vs oven plus hob

We are about to redo our kitchen and can't decide between a range (my choice) and an oven and hob "all fitted in nicely" (DH's choice).

DH is uncharacteristically worried about the buildup of gunk between the end of the worksurface/units. I like the look of a range and the width of the hob bit and extra burners.

What do we need to consider and which brands are worth avoiding? We're looking at "entry level" ranges, not Aga/Rayburn types - more something from Comet...

I dont get any gunk etc in mine.

But I never use the second oven or all of the hob.

If I could I would buy a second hand agaor rayburn off ebay and get it serviced or buy a recon one.

If I have to have a normal hob next time I will get a induction one and a fan oven at hip height so It's easier to put stuff in. Inductions dont get stuff burnt on iirc.
