Cockroaches... what to do?!

Found two cockroaches in bathroom and utility room today. I daren't ask, but why do I have them (my house isn't skanky; I clean daily, don't leave food out etc I promise) and how do I kill get rid of the buggers?

My neighbours ARE skanky and minging - dog shit in garden that never gets cleaned, old mattresses left to rot etc etc - could the 'roaches be attracted to that and coming in to our house? We live in a terrace. Blurgh.

Any ideas please on how to fumigate the bastards (the beasties, not the neighbours I mean).

PS. I tried to post this earlier and laptop crashed - so apologies if this is round two of same thread!

you can get Crawling Insect sprays that leave a coating on hard surfaces such as kitchen units and flooring, they poison the insect through its feet. There are any number of them in the shelves of places that sell household stuff, like Robert Dyas, and I saw some in the gardening section of Dyas.

If you have pets, put their dishes on a tray, take away and wash up after feeding.

You can remove the bath panel to spray under the bath.

I think they might be getting through gaps in the brickwork. Under the floors, usually, where there is no plaster to block cracks.

Your local council should have a pest department that can help.

Eeww. I wouldn't like to use fumigants in the house around the children myself. God this reminds me of when i was at friends house once for coffee many years ago now. Anyway we found one in the kitchen. After the initial panic we managed to corner it and scooped it up in a dustpan and rushed to the bathroom and chucked it down the loo. She was worried that it might climb its way back up the plumbing system though so squirted a whole bottle of thick bleach and left it to drown in the bleachy water and once it was dead after about 5 minutes we flushed it. Think it was a one off so god knows where it came from lol.
