the part of the drawer that I put the softener in has water in it when the cycle is finished and the clothes don't feel as though that have been soaked in the softener. Any ideas what could be wrong please? Ive cleaned the drawer thoroughly.

When this happened to us one of the pipes leading from the drawer was gunked up. We removed the drawer and used a toothbrush to scrub the inside of the cavity out, paying particular attention to the holes, ran a hot wash through with soda crystals and the problems was gone.

have you removed the drawer and cleaned the area that the drawer slots into. I use an old toothbrush, bleach spray and a cloth to get all the grot out

Empty the coin trap. Usually at the front behind a panel.

the fabsoft container has a syphon tube in it. You usually have to pull the lid off to clean the tube. Machines differ so you may need to look in the instruction book. The nylon brush advice should get the holes in the drawer aperture clean, with Kitchen Cleaner with Bleach especially if there is black mildew. If the nylon brush won't clear the holes you can use fine wire.

If it's the softener compartment, the pump filter will not be the cause, but it won't hurt to empty it and you may get some cash, lego or bra wires out.

well, Ive had a very productive morning. I've done everything that piglet john suggested (following the instructions in the booklet it was simple), I've also done what Seona1973 and whyme2 suggested and now I'm doing the soda crystal hot wash as per ShowOfUmblestAnds.

Fingers crossed for my next load of washing that the softener section is clear.
