What to do with old knives...?

Does anyone know the best/recommended way to dispose of old knives? I don't want to just chuck them in the wheelie bin a) for safety's sake and b) because of the area we live in. Any ideas would be welcome! MPD

Can't you take them to your local police station? Or sell them for/ take then to local scrapyard?

The Ask The Police website says you can throw them in the bin as long as you package them safely or you can take them to the local waste disposal place yourself.

I put mine in the bin wrapped securely in a thick sheaf of cardboard bound round with packing tape.

We take ours to the local tip and hand them to the staff there.

Some plank I know just put it in the bin, unwrapped.
