How can I get my marble floor shiny?

We have a large area of marble floor tiles. When mopped the floor looks beautiful & shiny. But this soon dries into patchiness and streaks and dullness.

Any tips on how to get a shiny, streak-free floor? (I'm aware how housewifey this sounds Grin)

Is there too much soap/detergent going onto it? We have marble tiles throughout (am in Italy) and I always use just half a cap of whatever instead of the 2 caps the makers say.

Also, here they recommend you use this stuff called "spirito" which is (I presume) white spirit/alcohol based then made to smell a bit less industrial. Ihave no idea what it would be called in English though. Francagoestohollywood is an Italian who lived in UK for many years so might know!

What about adding in some vinegar to combat the lime in the water?

Ah, both of you recommending vinegar...thank you! What type should I get? (I'm in France.)

Bucharest, have you ever had your floor professionally polished? I did wonder if this would help but would rather not spend the ???? if I can avoid it...

Nope, but I'm always Envy when I see one that has bn done!

There is something else in the shops here called "emulsio" seems to be some kind of sealant?

We can only get white wine vinegar (or balsamic Grin)

We have a porcelain tiled floor in our kitchen - never again!

I find using minimal solution and boiling hot water gets the best results.
