Cleaning the base plate of the iron...

.. over time the base has become a bit dirty, looks like some fabric has "welded" on to it... normal scourer not touching it, what else could I use without damaging the base beyond all recognition?

I had a hunch that if I googled "Lakeland" and "iron cleaner" then something would come up. And it did!

I have a cloth which does the same job - bought in Asda, but ages ago so I don't know if they still stock it.

I don't know why but I never ever think to check Lakeland (reminds me of my mum who is obsessed so I steer clear....). Thanks!

the lakeland stuff works and is amazing....(i love lakeland)

lakeland stuff is fab but its cheaper (delivered) on ebay (and then you dont even need to go to lakeland)

Get the plate warm (but not too hot) and then scour with a rough cloth and bicarbonate of soda
