How do i clean the stairs?

Have carpet on stairs and landing and it really needs cleaning. Have tried stuff off supermarket shelves but they don't get it any were close to being brand new clean.

Have also tried steam cleaning with mums cleaner but still looks as if the dog has been sleeping there!
Don't know what to try next.
Any suggestions?

I hired a rug doctor and did my entire house - it looked great, big difference! The machine comes with a nozzle attachment to do the stairs.

Wouldn't hire it just for the stairs tho as it would be pricey for that. My hire was for two days so I split it with my friend and we had it for one day each. Worked out very reasonable then. hth. :)

Infrequently

I would (and do) mop over the carpet with a damp disinfectant-y mop, put rubber gloves on, get on knees and rub over worst affected areas (animal hair-y bits) and then Hoover thoroughly my cream stairs carpet comes up LOVELY TBH that's a job I have to do at the weekend so you have my sympathies

Just gonna have to crack on with it then.

If you can afford it, get an expert. we used to use service master ( franchise) and the carpets came up very clean.

I use a wire brush on the stairs and then Hoover it brings the carpet up beautifully!
