Can someone please help me break down my list into something do-able

Can someone please help me break down my list?

Please please?

I don't know whether it's best to approach it room by room, or by downstairs/upstairs or just haphazardly doing whatever I feel like at the time, or prioritising most important things first... or something else??

I have a massive list to do before Feb 10th when I have visitors. Most of it isn't that bad/is already done regularly/etc but I like things to be freshly done before anyone shows up.

So:

Deep clean bathroom (clean tiles and grout, clean mirrors and window, clean bath side and shower cubicle, de-clutter old and nearly empty stuff, clean shelf unit that houses make up etc, clean loo inside and out, mop and polish floor)

Deep clean kitchen (clean cupboard inside and out, clean cooker, microwave, storage jars, find homes for everything, clean fridge/freezer, clean dishwasher and washing machine, bins and recycling out, clean tiles and grout, shine sink and taps, mop and polish floor)

Scrub landing carpet

Wash, dry and store bedlinen

De-clutter living room

Clean keyboard and hoover behind PC (living room)

Wash voiles (living room)

Put away clothes (bedrooms)

Hoover everywhere (living room, stairs, landing, bedrooms)

Dust everywhere (living room, dining room, hall)

Leather cleaning stuff for sofa (living room)

Clean skirtings (hallway, living room, landing)

De-cobweb (dining room and kitchen)

Get fire logs out of storage

Re-hang dining room curtains (have been taken down and washed but not back up yet)

Clean and polish tiled floors (hall/porch)

Mop and wood treat wood floors (dining room)

Wood treat and polish dining table

Find a sodding tablecloth

I think that's everything.

Blimey, have you got the Queen coming?
Seriously I'd start with a quick win - rehang the dining room curtains, then I'd deep clean maybe the bathroom - then it'll just need a quick going over right before they arrive.
After that I'd concentrate on laundering the towels and sheets the guests will need as they'll be all ready.
I'd probably lie down in a darkened room for a while after that Smile
Then re-prioritise what's left.
Do you have DC/DP to help - delegate!

Dining room quick wins first
Floors when convenient to house routine
Cleaning skirtinhgs as and when in room
Sofa whilst watching tv
Fit in small things in usually living
Deep clean thursday night

Not the Queen but a super tidy obsessively clean type person and I hate hate hate that sinking feeling of looking around once they have arrived and realising I've missed something.

No DP but I do have a very useful teen DD!

Watch something with advert breaks in. Every time there's a break, get up and do a job or part of a job. Over a 1 hour programme, that's about 15 mins and it's amazing how much you can get done! Obv can double work output if you've got a helper.

gothicmama · 05/02/2012 16:25

How you getting on ?

lubeybooby · 05/02/2012 17:27

Ok thanks - have done most of the kitchen deep clean and a bit of living room decluttering (relocating shoes which always seem to end up in here for some reason!) and have done a thorough hoovering of the living room (but that was due anyway)

I'll sort the curtains out next and do a couple of other dining room things then that will do til tomorrow

That's a good start keep going I have to sort out a drawer so - I will get on with that

lubeybooby · 06/02/2012 18:14

Finished kitchen deep clean today, still haven't done the sodding curtains but that is next! I got distracted with a bit of decluttering as it was bin day and I had a load of room left in the bin so thought I'd might as well make use of it.

The next most urgent thing is to put some mountains small piles of clothes away because they are annoying me. Then thorough hoovering so it will only need a quick go over on the day.

I think haphazard random cleaning according to what I feel like doing seems to be working for me. Having said that I did have to force myself to concentrate on the kitchen and not get distracted along the way with other jobs.

Sounds like you have a plan keep going

gothicmama · 09/02/2012 18:54

So lubey how you got on I hope your guest apreciates your hard work and you enjoy the visit

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 20:07

Thanks, got most of it done now just a bit left to do tomorrow. Not sure if the visit is still on though due to possible weather based postponement! Oh well at least my house is spring cleaned.
