How do you organise Lego?

My ds loves lego. Mainly the Star Wars and Ninjago stuff but he has Lego City, Cars 2, Atlantis, Pharohs Quest etc etc. The stuff is so damn expensive I really don't want to chuck it all in one tub but all the boxes take up so much room. I need some kind of system. Anyone?

well as ours is in shallow boxest he boys can find what they want, we have the city sets, star wars, indian jones, harry potter etc but it all goes in the underbed storage boxes!

My mum got an old wooden laundry box the ones that lift up, and painted it white and got a load of large lego stickers on it. My son loves it and we stick all of the lego in together.
Anything made up special gets put on top of the cupboard out of the wee sisters reach.
