Hello Ladies!
How do you get your floors really clean? No matter how many times I mop, wipe, etc the dirty sock test always fails!!
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Ta.

A good scrub to get rid of any ingrained dirt? I always think mopping is pointless tbh. It's just swishing water around surely? I tend to rub mine by hand with a hot cloth and spray cleaner or flash. My floors are tiny though.

A steam mop!

LilPud · 27/01/2012 15:32

I'm hoping the steam mop I ordered the other day is going to do the job. Right now mopping just seems like a pointless task - I have tiles and hardwood everywhere so there's gotta be something!

My e-cloth mop is awesome. My floors have never been so clean!

I have sandstone floors is there any way of cleaning them, Please?

VeronicaSpeedwell · 27/01/2012 16:44

Watching with interest -- we have black and white checkerboard vinyl in the kitchen and the white squares look filthy even after cleaning. I guess the black ones are just as dirty, but since I can't see it I feel less bothered about that!

Thanks for the ideas girls. I sweep and wipe with floor wipes twice a day and use cillit bang with a mop twice a week. I thought about a steam mop. Might be worth a look. e cloth is interesting too. I think unfortunately the answer might be scrubbing and elbow grease. sigh There I was hoping for a miracle!!

Someone on here recommended biological washing powder. Since I started washing my floors with it they're sparkling!

notso · 27/01/2012 18:23

I think you need to start off with a scrub, but I use boiling water and a little bit of floor cleaner, mop but rinse the mop out in the sink under running water, don't put it back in the bucket, mop a bit then empty, boil fresh water and repeat.
I have a steam cleaner but it doesn't work as well as the boiling method.

I'm very impressed with my Vax steam cleaner. I never got on with mops and used to clean mine by hand with boiling water and a cloth.

labradoodlemum · 18/02/2012 14:16

THere are 2 Vax steam cleabers - a Hard Floor Master and a Bare Floor Pro - any advice on differences and whether the nwere more expensive one (Bare ) is better?

PigletJohn · 18/02/2012 17:45

some floor cleaners that leave a shine have a polish in them, that can seal dirt underneath. The cleaners that leave no shine, like old Flash and the washing powders, probably get floors cleaner.

Will the bio powder trick be ok on laminate?
