...and are they any good?

Need a new fridge freezer (current one is making very very odd noises!) and they have a special buy on atm for their own brand F/F. Its german made I believe and is the roght size for us.

Anyone had one? Would you recommend?

TIA

Dryer and washing machine - no complaints about either

oldmcdonalds · 25/01/2012 21:58

Washer/dryer. I hate it.
Smartarse, how come yours is good?
the cycles take so long, and everything is creased

Hulababy · 25/01/2012 22:06

Apparently JL appliances are made by the Electrolux brand - same as AEG and Zanussi.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 26/01/2012 10:45

Oldmc , the cycles are long, I agree. But I always use the "quick" button - which halves the length of the cycle and seems to wash everything just as well (at least, I've had no complaints about my stinky family!). And as for it all being creased, well that's just in the nature of a spin cycle, isn't it?! Smile

SunshineOnARainyDay · 26/01/2012 10:47

Washing machine and double oven here. Both fab

SwedishEdith · 26/01/2012 10:48

I've a JL range and it's an AEG. JL have stopped using Smeg, I'm sure, and salesman wasn't complimentary about them.

Becaroooo · 26/01/2012 11:20

Hello all. On the site it states "german made" and I immediately thought "bosch" ?

Hoping to convince dh that we need it asap...the noises from our current one (just moved house and its the previous owners one) are unbelievable!

Actually, can I do a quick straw poll on here with you?

This kitchen is really badly thought out/planned IMO. Dh disagrees (but then doesnt do any cooking or use the kitchen much!)

Double oven is the other end of and side of the kitchen to the hob (which we had to replace as it didnt work!) The ceramic sink is HUGE and takes up far too much worktop space. I hate it! The only radiator is not on the wall, but attached to the end cupbaord Hmm However, my biggest bugbear is that the F/F is next to the oven....now I think this is deeply strange and not a good idea...or is it ok/normal? Thoughts?

Would it be a better idea to wait to replace the F/F til we can re-do the kitchen and move everything? (assuming it doesnt stop working before then!)

Beccarooo, I wouldn't spend on a new F/F if you are considering a new kitchen in the foreseeable future. Despite sod's law stating that if you don't buy one now, then yours will pack in the day after the JL offer ends, given the state of the economy there will always be another deal to be had somewhere.
The only caveat to that is if we are talking a freestanding F/F, when you redesign your kitchen, would you be able to keep it and move it to a more logical position?

Re. long cycles on washing machine. It seems to be how all manufacturers are going now, as makes them more energy efficient. Our AEG has a standard cycle of 2h20m but you can select a quicker cycle if needed.

auldspinster · 26/01/2012 13:35

I've got a JL fridge freezer which is fab. My mum has had some problems with a dishwasher from them but they're refunding her so she can pick something different - it's one of these filing cabinet type ones.

Becaroooo · 26/01/2012 14:02

It would be a free standing one mum so we could move it to a new position when needed.

Oh how I wish we could afford that was!!

Its so annoying as I am sure there is a great kitchen in there somewhere!

Tumble drier, only had it three months but no probs. DH's aunt is domestic goddess and not short of a few pennies and all her appliances are John Lewis own brand.

washing machine, nearly 3 years old. just starting to act a bit temperamental, but we do have 3 small dc, two still in cloth nappies. luckily JL products come with 3 years guarantee by default, instead of two Grin

Becaroooo · 27/01/2012 08:39

was really????? Blimey!

Becaroo the fridge next to the oven is not a great idea as it will have to work harder to keep cool. I have always had a free standing fridge as it is easier to replace than a fitted one ( mil had a terrible time to find one that fitted into her cupboard when her one broke down. If you have a laundry room you could maybe use the sink in there ? Very strange that the radiator is fixed to a cupboard ???? safe ???? How about you redesign your kitchen the way you really want it and see how it would all work together ?

Becaroooo · 27/01/2012 08:56

Yes thats my feeling...the noises it makes!!!! Shock

There is another option....we have a sort of cubbyhole (as we say round here) which is basically the area under the stairs...now, we could take the door off and put a F/F in there BUT then we would have a big hole where the current F/F is...sigh...I hate this kitchen!

This is from AGES ago, but I was just googling to see if I am alone in my HATRED of JL appliances, and from this thread it would seem that I am:

washer - great capacity, long cycles, leaves great grey streaks all over clothes often, no matter whether we clean the filter/change powder/clean seal/run service wash etc.

gas hob - 2 rings now won't self-ignite, all the markings on the front have rubbed off with cleaning

dishwasher - ATROCIOUS at drying. takes more than 50 mins to dry on the economy cycle, and there's basically no difference if you stop the cycle 50 mins early (it's wet, but hot - which it is at the end as well...)

fridge freezer - BANE OF MY LIFE. Hate it. Is a forced air one, and it ices up deep inside, which means you have to defrost the whole thing - fridge and freezer - for 24 hours every few months, or it leaks water all over the floor

No more JL appliances for me!

(wd buy almost everything else from them though, and tbh can't quite believe I'm saying this: I love JL!)

We've got a ff wine cooler all in one. JL branded but actually made by AEG. Had the first problem with it in 5 yrs recently and was easily fixed.

Frikadellen · 14/02/2014 16:24

(Did just break the shelf but thats not really JL's fault)
